Hayley Davis

My Hockey Background

My name is Hayley Davis, and I am from Townsville, Queensland, Australia. I started playing field hockey at the age of 11 with Wests Hockey Club and, over the past six years, have developed into a high-level representative player competing at state, national, and international level.

I first entered the Queensland pathway at 14 and have since progressed through the U15, U16, and U18 age groups. In 2025, at the age of 16, I was selected for the Queensland U18 Gold Team and competed at the Australian U18 National Championships above my age group. During the tournament, I was named Hockey Australia Player of the Match after scoring a field goal and providing an assist in a 4–0 win over New South Wales.

Later that year, I was selected for the Queensland U18 Team to compete at the Mirnawan Cup in Malaysia. This gave me the opportunity to play internationally against high-level opposition, including the junior national teams of Japan, South Africa, and Malaysia.

In 2026, I co-captained Townsville at the Queensland U18 State Championships, where we won the Division 1 State Championship. I was named Player of the Final, and my performances throughout the tournament earned me selection for the Queensland U18 Team. We went on to win the Australian U18 National Championship in Darwin. I was also selected for the Queensland Schoolgirls U16–19 Merit Team after helping my team to a silver medal at the State School Championships, where I again served as co-captain.

Leadership has become an important part of who I am as a player. At 16, I was selected as captain of the Northern U19 Schoolgirls team, which gave me the opportunity to lead and compete alongside older athletes.

At club level, I continue to represent Wests Hockey Club in Townsville. I made my Division 1 Women’s debut at 15, competing against experienced senior and state-level players. Playing senior hockey at a young age has helped me become more confident, physical, and comfortable performing under pressure. I have also received several individual club awards, including U15 Best and Fairest in 2023, Most Promising Junior in 2024, and Most Outstanding Junior in 2025.

As a player, some of my biggest strengths are my speed, skill, work rate, and ability to win turnovers through an aggressive press. I enjoy playing with intensity and putting pressure on the opposition, while working hard for my teammates on both sides of the ball.

Why I Want to Play College Field Hockey

I want to play college field hockey in the United States because it offers an opportunity to combine high-level hockey with a strong university education. I am ambitious both academically and athletically, and I want to challenge myself in an environment where I can continue developing as a student, athlete, and person.

Representing Queensland, competing at national and international tournaments, captaining representative teams, and playing senior hockey have taught me how much I enjoy competitive environments. I like being challenged and being part of a team where players hold each other accountable, work hard, and share the same ambition to succeed.

I am also excited about everything that comes with moving to the United States. Living in a new country, experiencing a different culture, meeting people from different backgrounds, and building close friendships with my teammates are all things I look forward to. I see college as an opportunity to become more independent and grow both on and off the field.

Ultimately, I am looking for a university and hockey program where I can challenge myself, contribute to the team's success, and continue pursuing my academic and athletic goals. I believe my work ethic, leadership, competitiveness, and passion for hockey would allow me to make a positive contribution to a college program.
