Niek de Jong

Niek de Jong is a Dutch soccer winger and midfielder who came through the academies of Hercules and Eredivisie club Willem II before moving to the US, where he won the Red River Athletic Conference title and made the Dean's List at LSU-Shreveport in 2022. He earned NPSL All-Sunshine Conference XI honors in 2023 while playing for the Miami Dutch Lions, and made 18 appearances for California State East Bay the same year. Known for his creativity, tactical thinking, and calmness under pressure, he sees himself as most effective when his team builds attacks collectively. Niek is now looking for a new program with a strong coaching relationship where he can rediscover his enjoyment of the game while pursuing a good degree.

Personal Statement

As a forward/midfielder at CSU East Bay and NPSL team Miami dutch lions, I bring creativity and tactical brains and technique together. As a winger/midfielder I try to help the team with tactical thinking and creative solutions to help the team build up from difficult situations. Also I think that my passion for the game help the team to get over hard moments and be calm in situations with big pressure. I hope to be a really important player in my new team and get the joy in soccer back. Also I still strive to become a pro or get as high as possible as a player but also get a good degree and become a better person trough my time in the USA. For me the way of playing soccer and the click with the coach is super important. Also that the location of the school/ campus life is from a good level, because as a person I like to do a lot in my free time as well. But for me the soccer part stays the most important one and the way of playing. Because personally I’m the best player when we build up as a team and control the game.
