My hockey background

I started playing hockey when I was about 7 years old. I started in the second team of the E's, but I soon moved to the first team. This persisted in the D's, C's, B's and now also in the first year of the A's.

I was selected by my own club to participate in 2 selection training sessions for the Northern Netherlands team. On September 14, 2020 I had the first selection training and I passed the first round.

A week later was the last selection training and I also passed this, so I was officially in the team. I trained every Monday in Hattem and on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday I played with my own team in Leeuwarden. A year later (September 27, 2021) there were selection trainings for the North-East of the Netherlands. I also passed this selection training. So every Monday, in the afternoon, I was free from school and went to Apeldoorn to train. I still played 3 times a week in Leeuwarden.

When I started playing hockey I stood basically everywhere. I quickly noticed that I am a real attacker and therefore have to be at the front. In the past 9 years I have only been at the front and very occasionally in the middle.

My best skills in hockey are my speed and my hard forehand. This is why I prefer to stand on the right side. I also have a good overview of the field and where my fellow players are, with or without the ball.

Why I want to play college field hockey in the USA

Playing hockey and studying in America seems great to me! I can practice my sport at a higher level and will have an unforgettable academic (and hockey) experience at the same time. In addition, I like to make new friends, learn about different cultures and get the opportunity to develop myself on the field and during my studies. Studying in the English language also seems fun to me, because I want to improve my English language. What is a better way to do that in America!

For me, I think it will be a great opportunity to play hockey in a country where this sport is very popular, I will train and play matches with talented players and coaches who can help me take my skills to the next level.

I am very excited about the whole experience of studying, training, making new friends, traveling and mostly enjoying America on and off the field.
