My Soccer Background
I started playing soccer at Graaf Willem VAC when I was five years old and stayed there until I was 14. I then moved to HVV, where I played from U15 through U17 at a higher level. During my U16 season, I was selected for the KNVB youth selection for amateur players from South Holland, and in my U17 season I was invited to trial with Excelsior Rotterdam.
After HVV, I joined HV & CV Quick. With the U18s, we became champions in both halves of the season. I then became a starter for the U19s, won the First Division championship and qualified for the national championship. The following season, I captained the U19 team to a third-place finish.
I progressed directly into the HV & CV Quick first team and became a starter. I have now played around 80 senior matches. In my first two senior seasons, we competed in the fourth tier of Dutch soccer. Last season, we competed in the fifth tier and reached the promotion playoffs.
My Soccer Game
I am a two-footed attacking and central midfielder who can also play as a defensive midfielder. My main strengths are my vision, dribbling, passing, physical strength and soccer intelligence. I am comfortable on the ball, create solutions under pressure and try to help the team by making good decisions both in possession and without the ball.
Why College Soccer
Visiting my best friend at Duquesne University showed me how strongly the student-athlete experience brings academics, high-level sport, team life and personal development together. After completing my master's degree in Econometrics and Management Science at Erasmus University Rotterdam, I want to broaden my quantitative background through a graduate program in business, finance or a related field.
My goals are to become a starter, make an important contribution to the team and compete for conference and national championships. I also want to step outside my comfort zone, develop my leadership skills, build lasting friendships and make the most of a successful year as both a student and an athlete.
