My Field Hockey Background
I started playing field hockey when I was five, and the sport has been part of my family for generations. My great-granduncle represented the Netherlands as a goalkeeper at the 1964 and 1968 Olympic Games.
In 2019, I moved from VVV to AHBC to challenge myself in a more competitive environment. Although I had been selected for VVV's talent team, I began in AHBC's lowest team. I used that setback as motivation, progressed to the third team the following year and then earned selection for AHBC's talent team and the North Holland regional training team.
I now play for AHBC U18-1 at the highest level of Dutch youth competition. This season, our team remained undefeated through the first phase, became fall champions after five matches and qualified for the national competition among the top 16 teams in the Netherlands. I am also currently the team's leading scorer.
My Game
I am a fast and dynamic forward who can also play as an attacking midfielder. I read the game well, create space in the circle and often put myself in the right position to generate scoring opportunities. My backhand and shot on goal are important strengths.
I bring a positive mindset, persistence and determination to every match. Even when the odds are against us, I keep looking for the next opportunity and continue fighting for my team until the final whistle.
Why I Want to Play College Field Hockey
I want to study and play field hockey in the United States because it would allow me to combine a strong academic education with high-level competition. Having traveled and experienced different countries and cultures, I am curious, open-minded and excited by the opportunity to challenge myself in a new environment.
I want to continue improving technically and tactically, contribute to an ambitious team and grow more independent. I am looking for a competitive program with demanding but supportive coaches who communicate openly and are committed to helping their players develop.
Academics and Personal Interests
I am interested in medicine and related fields, particularly the human body, health and science. My goal is to build a strong academic foundation for a future career in this area.
Outside field hockey, I enjoy golf, tennis and skiing. I have also helped coach children between the ages of five and fifteen in both field hockey and indoor hockey. Supporting younger athletes and giving back to others are important to me and my family.
