My hockey background
My hockey journey began when I was six years old. I started playing at Victoria in Rotterdam and have been part of the club ever since. After developing as a central defender in the club’s third youth team, I became team captain at thirteen, which helped shape my leadership and confidence on the field.
At fifteen, I wanted to challenge myself at a higher level, so I pushed for a spot in Victoria’s selection program and was selected for the second team, where I currently play as a right or left defender. My biggest strengths are my speed, my ability to read the game, and my awareness of everything happening on the field. I always try to stay one step ahead, anticipate plays, and keep control in high-pressure moments. I’m naturally calm, and I’ve learned that my composure helps my teammates stay focused too.
I’ve been a fall season champion twice, came close to reaching the Dutch “subtop” this year, and have also won an indoor championship. My goal is to keep growing and bring the best of the Dutch hockey mentality to the next level of competition.
Why I want to play college hockey in the US?
I want to play field hockey in America because the combination of high-level athletics and strong academics truly speaks to me. In the U.S., sports and education are integrated in a way that allows me to develop both as a student and as an athlete without having to choose between the two. Because I was born in Amerika, studying and playing sports in the U.S. has always been a dream of mine. It also allows me to experience a new culture, become more independent, and push myself outside my comfort zone.
The college environment, with daily training, competitive games, and a strong team culture, gives me the opportunity to push myself, improve quickly, and reach my full potential. I’m excited by the idea of being part of a program where coaches and teammates support each other, where there is a real sense of school pride, and where athletes are encouraged to grow in every aspect of their lives.
