About Fenne's hockey background
My name is Fenne Hoeksema, I am 17 years old, and I currently play for Huizer Hockey Club in the Netherlands. I started playing field hockey when I was five years old, and ever since, the sport has been a major part of my life. Over the years, I have consistently competed at the highest level within my age group, always playing in the first selection teams. Through dedication, hard work, and a strong passion for the game, I have developed into a key player who contributes both in creating opportunities and scoring goals, while also taking on leadership responsibilities as team captain.
At the age of 17, I already compete at senior level with Huizer Dames 2 in the Reserve First Division. Playing against older and more experienced players has challenged me to adapt to a faster, more physical, and demanding environment. This experience has accelerated my development and strengthened my ability to make quick decisions under pressure.
As an attacking player, I am highly goal-oriented and have a strong instinct for scoring. Having also spent significant time playing in midfield, I have developed creativity and vision that helps me contribute to the team's attacking play. One of my greatest strengths is taking on defenders in one-on-one situations and creating opportunities through individual actions. My speed, technical skills, and direct style of play allow me to put pressure on opponents and create dangerous situations in the attacking circle.
From the U14 level onwards, I have experienced consistent team success, winning three outdoor championships and two indoor championships. These achievements taught me the value of teamwork, resilience, and performing under pressure. They also strengthened my competitive mindset and my desire to continue improving. My development has been recognized through my participation in the national selection process in the Netherlands, where I had the opportunity to compete alongside and against talented players. This experience motivated me even more to pursue my dream of competing at the highest possible level.
As a captain, I have developed strong leadership skills by leading through energy, communication, and commitment. I believe that leadership is not only about giving direction but also about setting an example through hard work, positivity, and dedication. I always strive to bring enthusiasm, discipline, and a strong work ethic to every training session and match.
What makes field hockey so special to me is that it has shaped who I am. For more than eleven years, it has taught me discipline, perseverance, teamwork, and confidence. I genuinely enjoy being on the field every day, whether it is during training, competition, or simply working to improve my skills. I am always eager to learn, develop, and challenge myself to become a better player and person. I believe the United States offers the ideal environment to pursue both my athletic and academic ambitions. The opportunity to combine competitive field hockey with a high-quality education is something that truly excites me. I am ready to step outside my comfort zone, embrace new challenges, build meaningful relationships, and contribute to a college program both on and off the field.
Alongside hockey, I have a strong academic interest in medicine and psychology. I am eager to pursue a degree in one of these fields and believe that combining high-level athletics with a challenging academic program will help me grow both personally and academically.
I am excited for this next chapter and fully committed to reaching my potential as a student-athlete. I look forward to bringing my passion, determination, and leadership to a college field hockey program in the United States.
