Megan Lampe

Partner | Soccer

Megan Lampe is a former college soccer player from the Netherlands who competed at Hastings College in the United States from August 2022 to December 2025. During her time in the U.S., she studied Communication while pursuing her passion for soccer at a high level.

From a young age, Megan was interested in the way sports and education are combined in the United States. At the age of 17, she was approached about the opportunity to play soccer in America and decided to explore the pathway for herself. That decision turned into an experience that would shape her both personally and professionally.

Why College Sports in America?

For Megan, the idea of studying and playing in the United States felt like a dream from the start.

“For me, it sounded like a dream — playing soccer every day and living together with your teammates.”

What attracted her most was the chance to fully immerse herself in both sport and student life. The day-to-day environment, the team culture, and the opportunity to grow through soccer made the college pathway an easy choice.

College Experience

During her time at Hastings College, Megan experienced both the competitive side of college soccer and the personal side of living abroad with a team.

One of her favorite memories was qualifying for the national tournament and traveling to Alabama with her teammates.

“Playing against such talented players was amazing, but the best part was being there with your team, being in a beautiful place, and creating memories together.”

For Megan, those shared moments with teammates became some of the most meaningful parts of her experience. The friendships, the travel, and the sense of being part of a close-knit group made her college years truly special.

Personal Development

Her time in the United States taught Megan an important lesson: results matter, but the process matters even more.

“I learned that results are not as important as enjoying the process. The moments you remember most are the ones with your team, both on and off the field.”

Living abroad also helped her grow as a person. She met people from different backgrounds, experienced new cultures, and learned more about herself along the way.

“I learned so much about myself, made lifelong friends, and met people I would never have met otherwise. It helped me become better at connecting with people from different backgrounds.”

Why Megan Helps players to do the same

After her own experience, Megan realized how powerful the college pathway can be for young players.

She knows how life-changing it can be to combine sport, education, personal growth, and international experience, and she wants other players to have the same opportunity.

“It was such an amazing experience that I want to share it with others and help them make their dream a reality.”

She also sees this as a meaningful way to stay involved in helping players, not only at the start of the process, but potentially much more in the future as well.

Why She Works with Plus31 Sports

Megan’s connection with Plus31 Sports is personal. Lars helped her during her own journey, and she has continued following Plus31 ever since.

What stands out to her is the way Plus31 approaches the process: professionally, but always with the player’s best interest at the center.

“It feels professional, but it also really feels like it is about the player — not about money or numbers, but about how to help each player in the best possible way.”

That alignment in values is what makes her excited to be part of the Plus31 Partner Network.

Advice for Players Considering the U.S.

Megan’s message to players who are unsure about studying and playing in the United States is simple: keep an open mind and do not feel like everything has to be decided in advance.

“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. You do not have to go for four years — you can go for one year or two as well. You also do not need to have your whole plan figured out before you go.”

She believes one of the best things about the college pathway is that there are many different options for different types of players. Some athletes choose a school because of the level of soccer, while others are more focused on location, academics, or the overall experience.
